Can I freeze your elderberry syrup?
Absolutely! In fact, during the summer months we freeze our bottles for shipping. Just be sure to take a few doses out of the bottle to make room for expansion. Freezing does not reduce the effectiveness in any way.
Is elderberry syrup safe for pregnancy/nursing?
It's always best to consult with your OB, but we have countless pregnant and nursing mamas that have take our elderberry syrup, (myself included). There have been no adverse affects in pregnancy or nursing with elderberry in history.
Can I mix it in something?
Absolutely! Heating the syrup over 100 degrees will start to break down the beneficial enzymes in the raw honey, but won't affect the elderberry in any way. Our syrup tastes delicious straight from the spoon, but mixing it in anything won't reduce the effectiveness at all.
Will kids take this? My kids hated the store brand.
Our elderberry syrup is not thickened like the store brands. It's a juice consistency and tastes amazing! A lot of our customers call it "Christmas in a bottle." Our 5 year old would chug the whole bottle if we let him!
Do you take bottles back?
Yes! We can take back bottles here in Pecatonica to sanitize and reuse. Take $1 off the purchase of your next bottle with the return bottle. Limit one bottle return for rebate, but you're welcome to drop off as many as you'd like. Message us for more details!
Do you have a diabetic or honey-free version?
We don't carry an already made elderberry syrup without honey; however, we do have a DIY kit that contains a brew bag with our signature elderberry and spice blend. Simply add it to water, simmer and bottle. You can add your own sweetener (or none at all).
Why can't kids under 1 have elderberry syrup?
Our syrup contains raw honey, which controversially is unsafe for babies under 1. The DIY kit is a great option for babies 6 months and up
How many doses in a bottle?
8 oz: Approximately 16 TB/48 tsp per 8 oz bottle
16 oz: Approximately 32 TB/96 tsp per 16 oz bottle
32 oz: Approximately 64 TB/192 tsp per 32 oz bottle
What is the shelf life? Does it need to be refrigerated?
Our elderberry syrup has a best by date of 3 months from production. We do not use any kind of preservative and we do not heat our honey, retaining all the beneficial enzymes; therefore, it does need to be refrigerated to extend shelf life. Rest assured our elderberry syrup has been lab tested to be safely out of refrigeration during transit.
I don't have refrigeration at work. How can I still take it during the day?
We suggest pouring some from your main bottle into a smaller bottle. It's ok to be out during the day, but more than a few days and the syrup will start to naturally ferment.
I left my elderberry out overnight! Is it ruined?
No worries! Do not dump that liquid gold! Leaving your elderberry syrup out for a day or a few days will not ruin your product, but simply take some time off the shelf life.
